A Step-Up Naked, Still on a Learner Licence

The Z650 S is the LAMS-approved bike for riders who've outgrown a 500 but still need it to count on a learner licence — a genuine 649cc parallel-twin gives real mid-range torque, while Sugomi-inspired styling and a more forward-leaning riding position make it feel like a proper step up, not just a bigger version of the same thing. It's built to be lived with while a licence is still restricted, and to keep making sense once it isn't.

Exciting Parallel Twin Engine

The 649 cc Parallel Twin engine delivers a throttle response with a powerful feeling and a quick-revving character. To optimise performance for everyday riding, care was taken to maximise low-mid range torque. This offers both a high level of control when making minute throttle adjustments and a gratifying rush of acceleration in the lower rpm ranges.

Light Weight, Nimble Handling

Benefitting from a chassis comprised of lightweight components, the Z650 S was designed using Kawasaki’s in-house analysis technology, resulting in a lightweight trellis frame and swingarm that are key to its ultra-light handling. This contributes to an enjoyable ride quality and suits the bike well for a wide range of riders.

Highly Manoeuvrable

The Z650 S’s lightweight and manageable seat height both contribute to manoeuvrability, whether walking beside the bike or foot paddling in a parking lot. The smooth engine response and strong low-end torque further facilitate low-speed manoeuvring—reassuring for a wide range of riders.

Horizontal Back-Link Rear Suspension

This modern suspension arrangement—also featured on Kawasaki supersport and other Supernaked models—delivers a balance of sporty performance and ride comfort, producing predictable handling for an exciting and enjoyable ride.

Kawasaki TRaction Control

Kawasaki's advanced traction control system provides both enhanced sport riding performance and the confidence to negotiate low-traction surfaces. Two rider-selectable modes offer progressively greater levels of intrusion to suit the riding situation and rider preference.

Kawasaki Quick Shifter (Accessory)

Allowing riders to take greater advantage of the Z650 S’s fun, sport riding character, the accessory quick shifter enables clutchless upshifts for seamless acceleration.

4.3” TFT Colour Instrumentation

4.3” all-digital TFT colour instrumentation gives the cockpit a high-tech, high-grade appearance, and features a display layout similar to other models in the Z family.  Riders can toggle between two display types. Type 1 shows a bar-style tachometer along the top with simple vehicle information below it. Type 2 shows a hexagonal tachometer.

Rideology: The App Motorcycle

The ability for riders to connect their smartphone with the Z650 S adds fun and convenience to every ride, as riders can use RIDEOLOGY THE APP MOTORCYCLE to access a wide range of functions, from vehicle information to riding logs and more.

Muscular New Looks

Onlookers will be drawn to the Z650 S, and riders will appreciate the wide, muscular shrouds in their view. The metallic accents enhance its high-quality appearance, while the front and rear LED lights highlight the bike’s sporty performance.

Part of the Z Family

Z machines are identifiable by their Sugomi style and performance, and the new Z650 S is no exception. It shares an unmistakable silhouette with time-honoured Z proportions (crouching stance, low-positioned head and upswept tail) that are hallmarks of the entire Z Supernaked family.

Riding Position Spurring the Rider On

The new Z650 S features a wider handlebar (40 mm forward, 10 mm higher, 30 mm wider) for a more forward-leaning riding position, enhancing its sporty street riding potential. With a higher seat providing better knee bend and comfort, the Z650 S strikes an ideal balance between comfort and sportiness.
